Toyota Raising the Bar for Efficiency, Developing Fuel Cell Trucks

Multiple automakers have been exploring the future of fuel cell vehicles which use hydrogen fuel cells instead of batteries or engines, but none have been so dedicated as Toyota, who is now even reportedly considering the development of fuel cell trucks.

Toyota’s fuel cell Mirai vehicle can be found in the streets in California, the only state that currently has the infrastructure for such a vehicle. For that reason, it is precisely where Toyota plans to test their first fuel cell truck, a semi-trailer truck.

Vehicles like the Mirai show Toyota’s commitment to fuel cell technology.

These hypothetical fuel cell Toyota trucks would be totally emission free, making them potentially the most environmentally friendly vehicles on the market – especially for trucks.

Trucks in general are of course much less efficient than cars, considering their massive size and hauling capabilities. If Toyota were to revolutionize the average truck, there’s no telling how popular such a fuel-efficient, pragmatic vehicle could be.

For now, few details are known about Toyota’s plans to develop fuel cell trucks, but the automaker is sure to announce more in the near future.
