Spring is rolling around which means tax season is in full swing. While it can be particularly painful, it’s important to file your taxes to avoid excessive fees and legal trouble. Keeping track of your financial records is just one part of filing your taxes for 2016. Here are a few simple tax tips from us at Capital Toyota to help you through the season.
Home Office Deductions – If you own or rent your home, you can deduct some expenses resulting from your work on it. The IRS requires that the home must be your main place of business and the expenses must be exclusive to your work. Storage space and a home office can be deductions as well. You just have to work out the percentage of space in order to calculation the deduction.
Car Expense Deductions – Traveling to meet clients and perform normal business is tax deductible as well. While this may seem like a true gem in the pile of tax forms, it’s important to keep accurate records. You can deduct wear and tear, insurance, gas, and mileage.
Supplies – If you’re a creative type who sells crafts on platforms like Etsy or eBay, you can deduct the cost of materials and supplies as well. Anyone can take this deduction provided they fall under the category of ordinary business expenses.
While you’re working with your financial records, it wouldn’t be a bad idea to pull your credit score either. Contact one of the main credit reporting agencies, such as FICO, and order a report. It could save you a hassle with lenders in the future!
January saw the unveiling of a number of new, different nameplates via the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. Among them was the new Toyota Camry debut, the first appearance of the 2018 model year across the entire world. Though Toyota brought over 45 vehicles to the 2017 Detroit auto show, the popularity and reputation of the Camry nameplate made it one of the most anticipated reveals at the event.
The 2018 Camry is all-new from the ground up, with Toyota’s New Global Architecture that the brand has been expanding across its entire lineup. Toyota’s designers also recognized the American market’s shift away from mid-size sedans and toward crossovers, so the new Camry incorporates design cues from the upcoming C-HR crossover. The interior has also been designed for a more sweeping, sculptural look.
The goal in designing the next generation of the Toyota Camry was to deliver a model that was more sporty, dynamic, and overall fun in terms of performance and capability. When Toyota reps unveiled the Toyota Camry debut in Detroit, they announced that “drivers will notice dramatic improvements” within seconds of getting behind the wheel. Judging from reviews of the new Prius, which has also implemented the new architecture, that assessment is spot on.

Multiple automakers have been exploring the future of fuel cell vehicles which use hydrogen fuel cells instead of batteries or engines, but none have been so dedicated as Toyota, who is now even reportedly considering the development of fuel cell trucks.
Toyota’s fuel cell Mirai vehicle can be found in the streets in California, the only state that currently has the infrastructure for such a vehicle. For that reason, it is precisely where Toyota plans to test their first fuel cell truck, a semi-trailer truck.
These hypothetical fuel cell Toyota trucks would be totally emission free, making them potentially the most environmentally friendly vehicles on the market – especially for trucks.
Trucks in general are of course much less efficient than cars, considering their massive size and hauling capabilities. If Toyota were to revolutionize the average truck, there’s no telling how popular such a fuel-efficient, pragmatic vehicle could be.
For now, few details are known about Toyota’s plans to develop fuel cell trucks, but the automaker is sure to announce more in the near future. In the meantime, to learn more about the Toyota lineup or to even take a Toyota model out on a test drive, feel free to stop by anytime and visit anytime at Capital Toyota.
The 2018 Toyota CH-R may have gotten its world debut at 2016 Geneva Auto Show, but fans recently got their first glance at the new, segment-defying vehicle on American soil at the Los Angeles Auto Show, where the vehicle was on full display.
This compact-sized vehicle has the makings of an SUV in a much smaller package, making it ideal for young drivers and small families. Its chief competitors are likely to be the Chevy Trax, Nissan Juke, and other similarly-sized models.
The new Toyota CH-R’s features include a 2-liter, four-cylinder engine that produces 144 horsepower and 140 lb-ft of torque, and the new pint-sized sports utility vehicle is built on the same foundational structure of the much-loved Toyota Prius.
While we don’t yet know pricing for the vehicle, we do know that it will come with the many standard safety features that Toyota Safety Sense has to offer, such as Automatic Emergency Braking, Lane Departure Warning, and Adaptive Cruise Control.
If you would like to learn more about the upcoming 2018 Toyota CH-R or would just like to check out the many other vehicles that Toyota has to offer, contact us or visit us any time here at Capital Toyota in Chattanooga, TN.

If the car is silent when you turn the key, your battery cables may be corroding and need to replaced. You can check this by forcing a screwdriver between the connector and terminal post and lodge it in, then try to start the car. If it starts, the cables are bad.
If you can hear the car crank but it won’t start, you may have bad spark plugs or a problem with your fuel line. A clicking noise when you turn the key means a dead battery or loose wiring, so if you have jumper cables and a friend whose car you can use, try to jump it.
When you go to jump a car, you have to follow specific steps to avoid messing up both batteries. Get the cars close enough together, nose to nose, for the cables to reach, and attach the cables like so: Clip the red cable to your positive terminal. Clip the other end of the red cable to other car’s positive terminal. Clip the black cable to other car’s negative terminal. Clip the other end of black cable to a metal spot on your car away from the battery.
Try to start the car. Once it’s started, detach the cables in reverse order and drive the car around a bit to recharge the battery.
Don’t forget to come into the dealership to get it inspected for any additional issues!

Summer has come and gone, and the blazing heat will soon be replaced by the bone-aching cold. Like in summer, winter requires some preparation in order to keep your car in working order and prevent an accident. Here are a few ways you can get your car ready for winter from us here at Capital Toyota!
Tires – The winter roads are known for being slick and dangerous. Tires with low tread simply won’t be able to deliver the maximum traction and safety. Check your tires and if there’s little tread left, replace them before winter strikes. Doing so could save more than just your car.
Battery – Your car’s battery has to work hard year-round, making it one of the most vital components of your vehicle. That’s why it’s important to make sure it can hold a charge. Since a car requires more current to start in winter, an old or weak battery simply won’t do. Check your battery and replace it if it’s a few years old or has any obvious signs of damage.
Oil – The oil is responsible for protecting the engine and that’s just as true in winter as it is in summer. For the most part, getting an oil change in winter is a sensible precaution in modern cars. Older cars, however, might need different oils in summer and in winter due to different requirements in oil viscosity.
